Just seen today. Lot of people here use steam so keep an eye on your credit card ;)

Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users:

Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.

We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.

We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.

While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.

We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.

We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.

I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Gabe.

I've been robbed!!!

Robbed of Sykrim play-time by having to go to work :(

Quite worrying though, won't be long before it hits the BBC site IMO, though I doubt it'll be as widely-publicised as the PS3 Network hack..

Change your password guys and gals! At least this was much better handled, so far, than the ps3 accident.

I am not surprised tbh.
The Steam forum rules are such its been begging to be hacked.
They conduct their rules in a way to seems unfair and just creates animosity.

Been banned there myself for saying, paraphrasing;
"The way Ubisoft treats their customers will only push more people over to warez."

Boom, banned from promoting "warez". LoL.
When I asked why I was told I had "several infraction". I knew that wasnt true so I asked them to list those, obviously they would have a record if that was the stated case right? ... Then they change their story and it was a instant ban for "warez promotion".

No big deal, but I rather not have my main nick associated with ban if I could avoid it. So, about good number of months later I figured why not just try Steam service and see if I could get my main nick unbanned. Not to use the account, but just to unban it.

I was upfront with why I was banned and that seemed okay in the start. They asked for some details to prove I was me, 3 weeks go by, then some more info, another 3 weeks, then they ask for info that was in the other replies and finally, after another 2 weeks I get a copy paste response in another language (English) about no tolerance for warez..., which I was upfront about from the start. Yeah, I can understand why someone would hack them. LoL, dickheads.  ::)
